[Editor's note] The development of nuclear medicine has been troubled by too much, among which the relevant standards of radiation protection in nuclear medicine have attracted much attention and heated discussion. On September 11, 2023, we received a reply from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to the Chinese Society for Radiation Protection's "Request for Consultation on relevant Provisions of Nuclear Medicine Standards". Exactly one month later, on October 11, 2023, we saw Jiang Yun, director of the Radiation Source Safety Supervision Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, lead a team to Wuhan to conduct a special research on nuclear medicine. We have to remember these two 11 days, which is a ray of spring breeze of nuclear medicine through the winter. Investigation and research is the foundation of planning, the way to accomplish things, and the basic skill of management. It is reported that Director Jiang Yun and his delegation will also go to Shanghai and other places for research. I hope that the nuclear medicine people will show them the true truth and tell them the true feelings. To help them hear the truth, find out the truth, really study the problem, study the real problem, find out the situation, identify the problem, and put forward countermeasures. We hope that more regulatory departments related to nuclear medicine will also come closer to nuclear medicine, enter into nuclear medicine, and stimulate the wind of investigation and research. On October 11, 2023, Jiang Yun, director of the Radiation Source Safety Supervision Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, led a team of 10 experts from the Nuclear and radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Anhui Radiation Environment Supervision Station and related fields conducted a special investigation on nuclear medicine in Wuhan. The Nuclear and radiation Environment Supervision Department of Hubei Provincial Department of Ecological Environment and Hubei Nuclear and Radiation Environment Monitoring Technology Center accompanied the investigation. Xia Jiahong, vice president of Union Hospital, participated in the whole investigation.

In the morning, the leaders and experts carried out a symposium on environmental protection policies with 8 nuclear medicine hospitals in Hubei province (namely, Wuhan Union Medical College Hospital, Wuhan Tongji Hospital, People's Hospital of Wuhan University, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Hubei Cancer Hospital, Hubei Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wuhan Central Hospital and Wuhan Fifth Hospital). In a warm atmosphere, the two sides expressed their joint efforts to promote the safe application of radiological diagnosis and treatment technology and to implement the Medium and Long-term Development Plan for Medical Isotopes (2021-2035).

In the afternoon, the leaders and experts visited and investigated the nuclear medicine department of Wuhan Union Medical College Hospital. Director LAN Xiaoli of the nuclear medicine Department introduced the development of nuclear medicine of Wuhan Union Medical College Hospital, the characteristics and advantages of nuclear medicine, the future outlook of nuclear medicine and radiation protection management of nuclear medicine. Then, accompanied by Vice President Xia Jiahong and Director LAN Xiaoli of the Nuclear Medicine Department, they visited and guided the layout and construction of the ECT room and the nuclide treatment ward of the nuclear medicine department, the diagnosis and treatment process, the protection facilities, and the treatment of three wastes, respectively, and highly praised the standardized management of the nuclear medicine department of our hospital.
